Surf guide for the best beaches in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria

Welcome to Oceanside Gran Canaria! If you’re a surfing enthusiast and looking for the best beaches in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria for surfing, then you’ve come to the right place. In this guide, we’re going to introduce you to the area’s top beaches, with descriptions of their characteristics, water conditions, surfing levels and the services available. But first of all, we couldn’t get started without mentioning the legendary Las Canteras Beach, which is where you will also find our surf school on Gran Canaria.

Las Canteras Beach

Las Canteras Beach is the Las Palmas de Gran Canaria surfing paradise, and it’s a place where people who love the sport meet up. Crystal-clear water and the golden and black sand seabed make it a perfect place for unforgettable surf sessions.

Famous for the breaking wave of La Cicer, Las Canteras offers favourable conditions for beginners as well as more experienced surfers. Here at Oceanside Gran Canaria, we offer surf courses for all levels, ranging from beginners to people looking to perfect their technique.

If you want to check the water conditions, we have a live webcam of Las Canteras Beach

for you.

El Confital

El Confital has without a doubt one of the best right waves in Europe. It attracts surfers from all around the world and has hosted several WQS world circuit competitions. Given the volcanic rocks on the seabed and the shallow water where it breaks, this wave is recommended only for surfers with plenty of experience with this type of waves (slab). The wild nature of the beach and its surroundings alone make it worth a visit, even if you are not surfing.

Playa de La Laja Beach

Located at the south-eastern point of the city of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, La Laja Beach is a quiet and less crowded spot. The waves are less consistent and not as high quality as at Las Canteras Beach. However, when there are waves, especially in summer, the beach offers ideal conditions for beginners.

El Lloret

El Lloret is located just next to the area called La Cicer on Las Canteras Beach. It is a very popular spot with local surfers. The waves break on rocky ground and depending on the time of year they can get pretty big. The best conditions are in autumn and winter. El Lloret is yet another world-famous wave and like El Confital has hosted numerous WQS World Tour events. Only very experienced surfers should take on this wave.

Las Palmas de Gran Canaria is home to a variety of beaches for all surfing levels. From the popular Las Canteras Beach, where our surf school Oceanside Gran Canaria offers classes adapted to all ages and levels, to more challenging spots such as El Confital, La Laja and El Lloret. There’s something for everyone. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced surfer, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria welcomes you with perfect waves and a truly unique environment. Come and enjoy the thrill of surfing on these magnificent beaches!
